AEG used its time at IFA this year to introduce a raft of new products, including extractor hobs, refrigeration systems and eco-conscious washing machines and tumble dryers.
New laundry range
The company unveiled new washing machines and tumble dryers that have a water-saving steam function and programs which automatically adjust the time, water and energy usage based on the load. These features enable people to live more sustainably, wash smarter and make their clothes last longer.
AEG has also introduced a filter that catches up to 90 per cent of microplastic fibres released by synthetic clothing.
Washing clothes too often and at hot temperatures can ruin the colour and fabric, so instead of washing users can opt for the steam function to refresh garments in 25 minutes. This uses 96 per cent less water than a regular washing cycle.
New kitchen tech
Within kitchen appliances, AEG showcased its new range of fridges and freezers designed to reduce food waste, including the 7000 Integrated GreenZone/GreenZone+ (pictured left).
Made with up to 70 per cent recycled plastic in the inner liner walls, this series of fridges is one of the most sustainable choices on the market. A built-in cooling system in the 8000 Cooling 360° helps reduce waste by up to 20 per cent, by keeping food fresh for longer. This will make an important contribution to preventing food waste.
Also within the kitchen range, the brand displayed two new extractor hobs: the 6000 Bridge with eXTractor and the 8000 Bridge/FlexiBridge with eXTractor, designed to bring more freedom to kitchen planning by removing the need for an overhead extractor hood. Located in the middle of the hob, the extractor fan is activated once a cooking zone is used, powerfully removing vapor quietly and quickly at the source. It filters and recycles the air back into the room and the breeze function ensures a fume-free kitchen after the cooking has been completed, by continuing to refresh the air.
Wine coolers
The final product announcement from AEG was the 8000 Wine Cellar, with features including Perfect Shelving, High Humidity, and UV-dark storage to make sure your wine lasts longer and maintains the best quality.
After temperature fluctuations and oxidisation, light is one of the worst enemies of wine and can rapidly affect taste and colour. AEG wine cellars eliminate light by incorporating UV-treated tinted glass doors, dark interiors, and UV-free LED lighting. AEG has also developed the perfect shelving which means that it can fit all 750ml bottle shapes.
CEO of Electrolux Europe (parent company of AEG), Chris Braam, said by working with recycled materials, energy efficient solutions and applying sustainable practices AEG is showing that it is possible for consumers to make great tasting, healthy food and keep clothes looking like new for longer while taking care of the environment at the same time.
“IFA plays an important role in putting a spotlight on innovation and it’s great to be back here,” he said. “While COVID may have put the physical event on hold, our strive to innovate has not taken a break. We are looking forward to showcasing our latest sustainable innovations and meeting with our trade partners and consumers in person in Berlin.”
