A range of electrical and connected home products has emerged from court evidence in the SNP embezzlement case involving former party chief executive Peter Murrell, who admitted stealing more than £400,000 from the Scottish National Party.
While the case is primarily a political and criminal justice story, published details of the investigation reveal a surprising selection of electrical products and smart home technology purchased using funds Mr Murrell admitted embezzling over a 12-year period.
Among the products cited in court documents were a Jura Giga 5 coffee machine valued at more than £3,200, a George Foreman electric grill, a Netatmo connected weather station rain gauge and associated smart weather monitoring accessories. Investigators also identified a Celestron NexStar 8SE computerised telescope costing almost £1,200, alongside a variety of electronic and technology-related purchases.
The evidence inventory also references a robotic lawnmower worth more than £3,000, highlighting the growing overlap between the garden and consumer technology sectors. In addition, the £124,550 Niesmann+Bischoff motorhome at the centre of the investigation incorporated a range of onboard electrical and electronic systems typical of the premium leisure vehicle market.
The products themselves are not alleged to have played any role in the wrongdoing and the manufacturers involved have not been accused of any misconduct.
