The Rainy Day Trust’s Mad March Million challenge has surpassed expectations, with teams across the home and housewares sector helping to hit one million steps in just 18 days – nearly two weeks ahead of schedule.
Launched on March 1 in partnership with workplace wellbeing specialists Wellbeing People, the initiative encouraged participants to commit to just 10 minutes of extra movement each day. What was initially seen as an ambitious first-year target quickly became a sector-wide success story.
Companies from across the industry took part, including Horwood, alongside a number of Bira members, with engagement spanning senior leadership teams through to shop floor staff.
Participants logged a wide range of activities, from walking meetings and lunchtime strolls to more creative efforts, highlighting the inclusive and flexible nature of the challenge. Many reported that the daily commitment quickly became part of their routine, with milestone streaks helping to drive friendly competition.
Anna Skeats, CEO of the Rainy Day Trust, said the campaign had exceeded expectations, both in participation and impact, while reinforcing the strong sense of community across the sector.
Beyond wellbeing, the initiative supports colleagues facing hardship, illness or financial difficulty – continuing the charity’s long-standing role within the industry.
The challenge runs until March 31, with donations still open.
