ERT Awards raises over £1,000 for Parkinson’s UK and ‘45 Aid Society

At this year’s ERT Awards, guests collectively raised over £1,000 for two charities – Parkinson’s UK and the ‘45 Aid Society, chosen in partnership with TRIC (the Television & Radio Industries Club).

It was a brand new element of the prestigious awards ceremony where attendees could enter into a raffle draw to win one of the selection of prizes. These included a Tefal Air Fryer, a Beko Bean-To-Cup Coffee Machine and a Hamilton Beach DeluxeFry 5L Digital Air Fryer, plus other appliances, kindly donated by EPE International; also an Etna Fermo Pizza Oven, kindly donated by Witt UK. Plus, TRIC offered two tickets to its infamous Christmas Lunch, taking place at The Londoner Leicester Square on 5 December.

Raffle tickets were sold throughout the afternoon and all the proceeds will be handed directly to the two chosen charities at the upcoming TRIC Christmas Lunch.

What are the charities?

Parkinson’s UK is the largest European charitable funder of Parkinson’s research. It helps people to live as well as possible, and make sure everyone understands the real impact of the disease.

Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world and there’s no cure. Anyone can get it and around 145,000 people in the UK are living with the condition today. By funding the right research into the most promising treatments, the charity gets closer to a cure every day.

The ‘45 Aid Society was set up by a group of child Holocaust survivors. In 1945, 732 holocaust survivors arrived in the UK. They were young and had suffered unimaginably. Known as ‘the boys’, though 180 were girls, these teenagers proceeded to fall deeply in love with and thrive in their adopted country. 25 of the original boys are still thriving today.

The ‘45 Aid Society, now run by ‘the boys’ children and grandchildren, exists to teach new generations about the Holocaust antisemitism racism and homophobia using their incredible archive as a global resource.

Speaking about the money raised, TRIC Chairman, Daniel Todaro (pictured left), commented: “As a not-for-profit organisation, TRIC raises funds and awareness for good causes on behalf of the broadcast media community and its associated industries. We are an ongoing media partner with ERT and we are grateful to the team for allowing TRIC to be associated with the prestigious ERT Awards.

“This year the TRIC nominated charities have very personal connections to myself and TRIC President, Rob Rinder. And it was absolutely fantastic to see how much was raised at the Awards ceremony! Thank you so much to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and contributed to these two extremely worthy charities.

“Our partnership with ERT is demonstrative of the bonds that TRIC has across the entire industry – making the TRIC Awards very personal to everyone.”

ERT Events Manager, Charlotte Steadman, added: “I simply echo Dan’s words. Thank you so, so much to everyone who supported the ERT Awards this year and supported our initiative to raise as much money as possible for these charities. I’m sure it will go a long way to help them both continue their amazing work.

“A huge thank you also to both EPE and Witt for kindly donating the prizes. We couldn’t have done this without them.

“And of course, congratulations to the raffle winners! Enjoy your prizes! Thank you again for taking part!”

Thank you to the ERT Awards 2023 sponsors!
