BSH Home Appliances Group has announced a change at the top of the business, with Dr Matthias Metz set to step down as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management at the end of September.

Rudolf Klötscher, who has spent almost 30 years with BSH, will succeed Dr Metz as CEO and Chairman as the home appliance manufacturer enters its next chapter.

Dr Metz has led BSH for the past four years and said his departure was a “personal decision”, with plans to pursue new entrepreneurial opportunities following his exit.

Reflecting on his time at the company, he said the home appliance market had become faster-moving, less predictable and considerably more challenging during his tenure.

“The market we navigated together over these four years moved faster, became less predictable, and proved far more challenging than many in our industry had anticipated,” he said.

During that period, Dr Metz said BSH had sharpened its strategic direction, strengthened its competitiveness and continued the strategic and operational transformation of the business, with consumer and customer needs remaining at the centre of its decisions.

Paying tribute to BSH’s more than 55,000 employees around the world, he added: “Four years leading BSH have reinforced one core conviction: leadership is never an individual achievement.

“What has truly impressed and inspired me most is the commitment, openness and spirit across our global ONE TeamBSH. Real progress happens when people take ownership, bring forward ideas, and collaborate across functions, brands and regions.”

Dr Metz also thanked BSH shareholder Bosch and its CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management, Christian Fischer, alongside his fellow BSH Board members.

Incoming CEO Mr Klötscher is a long-standing figure within BSH, having worked at the company for nearly three decades.

Dr Metz said his successor’s experience across the business and its markets made him well placed to take over the top job.

“Having worked very closely with Rudi over the last four years, I could not wish for a better successor to lead BSH as CEO into this exciting new phase,” he said.

He also thanked BSH’s consumers, customers and business partners for their support and collaboration during his tenure.

“For me, the time has come to pursue new entrepreneurial opportunities,” Dr Metz concluded. “It has been an honour and a pleasure to be part of this great team.”

BSH Home Appliances Group operates a portfolio of appliance brands including Bosch, Siemens, Gaggenau and Neff.
