No dish, no box, no fuss: New all-in-one 4K TV from Sky

Sky has launched a new streaming TV with the Sky platform built in, plus catch-up and on-demand apps and technology including 360-degree Dolby Atmos sound with powerful built-in speakers and a sub-woofer.

It’s called Sky Glass. It works solely using Wi-Fi and it is the first TV with Sky inside – no dish or box required. It will be available to buy in the UK from 18 October.

Speaking at the launch event, Dana Strong, Group Chief Executive at Sky, said: “Built on over 30 years of understanding what our customers want, this is a TV that only Sky could make. We believe this is the smartest TV available, and that customers will love it.”

The new TV comes in 43, 55 and 65-inch sizes and five colour options – Ocean blue, Ceramic white, Racing green, Dusky pink, or Anthracite black, with matching remotes and customisable speaker facias for extra personalisation.

The 4K Ultra HD Quantum Dot screen delivers crystal-clear pictures, also supporting HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision to produce vibrant, more intense colour. As for sound, the Glass features six powerful, integrated speakers in optimal positions to deliver edge to edge Dolby Atmos sound, and a sub-woofer designed in for a rich, deep bass.

It’s a smart TV, too, with far-field voice and Glance Motion Technology, users just have to say “Hello Sky” or walk past to bring the streaming TV to life. A new home page makes it easier to find, watch and play content. It brings stuff from across Sky, BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Disney+, ITV Hub, All4, Spotify, Peloton, PlayWorks and more.

With just the press of a few buttons, users can create a personal playlist of their favourite shows, movies and more across apps and channels, live and on demand.

As well as this, Sky said the Glass is the world’s first TV to be certified as a CarbonNeutral product. Sustainably designed, it has low power features built in such as auto-switch-off and auto-adjusting screen brightness, helping it to be more energy efficient. It is the only TV to come in recyclable packaging, free from single-use plastic.

The company also claimed that by using a TV with everything built in, users can reduce electricity consumption by up to 50 per cent.

Next year, we’ll see the launch of a high spec 4K smart camera that works with Sky Glass to unlock a range of new services for people to chat, play games, workout and share entertainment at home.
