For those who consider a PC or laptop to be their main music source, the Copland DAC215 could be just what they need.

A DAC (digital-to-analogue converter), pre-amp and headphone amp all in one, the DAC215 promises to process high-resolution audio data from a computer for playback. It works with PCs or Apple Macs and is compatible with digital PCM data up to 32bit/384kHz resolution.

Once connected, the computer recognises the DAC and bypasses the source device’s internal audio circuitry. The unit also has its own power supply and isolates itself from the computer’s noisy power line.

As well as being usable as a high-end pre-amp, the DAC215 can also be used as a headphone amp and uses vacuum tube (valve) gain stages.

Retail price is £1,998.
