Sirius Buying Group has raised £13,500 for its 2026 charity partner, OCHRE, following a charity auction held during the Gala Dinner at its 25th Anniversary Trade Show in September.

The event, which took place on 16 September at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, brought together more than 450 members, approved suppliers, service providers and guests to celebrate the buying group’s milestone anniversary.

More than 35 suppliers exhibited at the Trade Show, while the Gala Dinner was the largest in Sirius’ 25-year history.

The charity auction, a regular feature of the Group’s annual Gala Dinner, saw approved suppliers donate a range of products and experiences, with members bidding throughout the evening to raise funds for OCHRE, the Oesophageal Cancer Charity.

This year’s fundraising has particular significance for Sirius following the diagnosis of long-standing member John Wardman, of Domestic Supplies in Mansfield, with early-stage oesophageal cancer arising from Barrett’s oesophagus.

After experiencing symptoms, Mr Wardman sought medical advice rather than continuing to rely on over-the-counter medication, leading to an early diagnosis.

His experience highlights the importance of recognising potential symptoms and seeking medical attention, which is central to OCHRE’s awareness campaigns.

The charity works to raise awareness of oesophageal cancer, support patients and their families, and fund research into earlier diagnosis and improved treatments.

Mark Veysey, Operations Director at Sirius Buying Group, praised the generosity of members and suppliers who supported the auction.

“Our Approved Suppliers came forward with some brilliant items this year and our Members made sure every one of them got the bids it deserved, which is what happens every time we ask,” he said.

“£13,500 is a figure to be proud of, and with John’s story front of mind for so many people in that room, the night meant a lot more than the number on the sheet.

“Thanks go to everyone who donated, everyone who bid, and everyone who has given since.”

Since its formation in 2001, Sirius Buying Group and its network of members and suppliers have donated more than £200,000 to charitable causes.

Fundraising for OCHRE will continue throughout the remainder of 2026, with members, suppliers and supporters encouraged to contribute through the Group’s dedicated JustGiving page.
