Iconic British audio brand Roberts has taken to the streets – literally – with its latest playful stunt…
Before the brand’s oversized radio display bids farewell to John Lewis, the team gave it a proper send-off – by rolling it through the bustling heart of London’s Oxford Street! Londoners were treated to the sight of the giant red retro-inspired radio turning heads and sparking smiles.
This larger-than-life display isn’t just for show; it’s part of Roberts’ mission to reignite the love for radio and celebrate its timeless sound for generations, perfectly bringing the motto of CEO Owen Watters to life: “Let’s get radio back on the agenda again!”
With a nod to the brand’s rich heritage and an eye on the future, this stunt perfectly aligns with Roberts’ commitment to keeping radio relevant as an enduring and innovative medium. Roberts is amplifying its voice as the brand that is bringing radio into the modern era.
Roberts was founded by Harry Roberts and Leslie Bidmead in London in 1932, who began making portable radios from a small shop – initially producing just three a week, they had a simple philosophy: never compromise on quality and keep pushing the boundaries.
The company has followed these values ever since; from the iconic fifties-style Revival retro radio through to cutting edge wireless speakers with multi-room capabilities, to the new Bluetooth speaker, the Roberts range has something to suit everyone.
Last year Owen Watters returned to Roberts as CEO after four years away at Hama UK. Upon his return, Mr Watters said that more and more consumers are tuning into their radios – with podcasts and streaming services extending the appeal – and now is the right time for Roberts to “get radio back on the agenda”.
He said he plans to build on the company’s strong connections with traditional and independent retailers and premium high street locations, to champion the benefits of in-person shopping with the expert advice and unique services on offer.
