King of Broadcast James Whale receives TRIC Recognition Award

TRIC has announced it has awarded the King of Broadcast, James Whale, with its TRIC Recognition Award – the first award of its kind.

Mr Whale (pictured) – a pioneer in the speech radio and TV medium – has dedicated over 50 years of his life to broadcast; he’s also a podcaster and author.

He’s currently living with stage four kidney cancer, and throughout his broadcasting career and especially during his illness, he has shown true grit and determination to entertain and inform the nation every week, and in recent years on the James Whale Unleashed show on TalkTV.

TRIC said it is delighted to honour Mr Whale to celebrate his outstanding work and dedication to the TV, radio and online industry over the years.

This is actually the third TRIC award that Mr Whale has received; well-known for his shock jock journalism, TRIC credited him first back in 1976, and eight years later in 1984 for his contribution to journalism.

TRIC Chair, Daniel Todaro, said: “James Whale is an innovator within broadcast media as a pioneer of the talk radio and laterally the talk TV genre in the UK. So many have carved out a career in the talk genre but James remains the king of the UK talk show. TRIC is not only honoured but delighted to recognise an individual whose career has spanned many generations.”

Mr Whale has been nominated this year in the Radio Personality longlist in the 2023 Public Vote – if you would like to see the King of Broadcast win at the TRIC Awards on 27 June, then cast a vote for him via the TRIC website.

Voting extended!

The public voting for this year’s TRIC Awards has been extended to 5pm on Friday 19 May 2023. So you haven’t got long left to make your voice heard, and select your favourite TV, radio and online programmes – and their stars – which might see them heading on stage to collect a TRIC trophy next month!
