Hughes Trade invests £500k in new Leeds site

Hughes Trade has invested more than £500,000 on a new base in Leeds as part of its continued expansion in the North of England.

The new operation, on Lockwood Way in Leeds, will initially employ three staff. The expansion means the company will be operating throughout Yorkshire, Teesside and Humberside for the first time.

“This is great news for Hughes Trade in our 10th anniversary year,” said general manager Paul Chisnall. “We have been looking to expand our operation further north for some time and are delighted to have bought a building in such a great location. It will complement our operation in Preston and give us a great presence across the North of the country.”

Hughes Trade now covers 75 per cent of England through its 14 branches and employs around 50 people.

“Once established we will be looking to grow the business and staff numbers by targeting builders, charities, hotels, guest houses, holiday parks, pubs, restaurants etc., across the North of England, offering a full range of electrical products,” added Mr Chisnall.

The Leeds operation will be managed by David Wild. He said: “We will be offering a ‘click and collect’ service where items can be selected and reserved from our trade only website.

“Our branch is very convenient for trade customers being around a minute from the M621 with ample free parking and we look forward to expanding Hughes Trade into a new part of the country.”

Hughes Trade also has a rapidly growing business rental service for commercial organisations, which has seen it install TVs in holiday parks, commercial washing machines and dryers in care homes and dish and glass washers in pubs.

It also rented around 3,000 items of electrical equipment to the London 2012 Olympics and more than 2,000 items to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
