Hughes Trade expands into Scotland

Hughes Trade has continued it expansion programme by opening its first branch in Scotland, located at Hillington Park, outside Glasgow.

The company has grown significantly since being founded in 2007 to offer business and commercial organisations a wide range of electrical items from leading manufacturers including white goods, built-in appliances, TV and audio as well as computer tablets and laptops at trade prices.

It currently has 8,500 active service accounts and over 50 staff operating from 14 locations across the UK.

Virtually all items Hughes Trade offers are available for businesses to rent, which is becoming an increasingly attractive option as it offers many advantages; such as managing cash flow, taking the worry out of anything going wrong, while for many organisations it is also 100 per cent tax deductible.

However, this is not the first time Hughes Trade has operated in Scotland as it supplied over 2,000 electrical items to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as well as two lorry loads of goods used in the warehouse scene in ‘Trainspotting 2’, which was filmed in the city.

“Moving north of the border is an exciting development for Hughes Trade,” said General Manager, Paul Chisnall. “It is in a part of the country where we have not previously had a branch and every time I visit Glasgow there is a real buzz about the place.

“We have a great team at Hillington Park and are looking forward to growing our business. If it turns out to be the success we all believe it will then we will look to invest further in Scotland.

“Last year was a record for Hughes Trade, with a 23 per cent rise in sales to over £20m, built on giving great service to new and existing customers, together with preferential trade pricing – which we will be continuing from our new Glasgow operation.”

The branch is managed by Stewart McTaggart, who is supported by Caroline Garlick, both pictured above.

Said Mr McTaggart: “We hold a lot of stock so most items are ready for immediate delivery, plus we have the back up of Hughes massive central warehouse. Customers can choose to collect or we can offer a delivery service.”

Hughes Trade is part of the Hughes Electrical Group, which has around 35 stores countrywide.
