Whilst the England Men’s National team fell at the final hurdle, after losing to Spain in the Euros 2024 Championship final, the British economy claimed a massive victory and saw a £3.1 billion boost.

Fans are estimated to have spent £405 million before England’s clash with Spain, according to research from VoucherCodes.

British Retail Consortium (BRC) Director, Kris Hamer, said: “following success against the Netherlands, we are expecting more people across the nation to tune into Sunday’s final, meaning more spending.”

Retailers are estimated to have received a £280.1 million boost, with the majority spent in supermarkets on last-minute food and drink for the game, The Telegraph reported.

The month-long tournament created an increase in sales which was welcomed gratefully by retailers after the BRC reported retail sales slipped by 0.2 per cent as the late June heatwave failed to offset dampened consumer spending.
