The Safety Innovation Award announces it is closing for entries on the 31 August, the award highlights innovative approaches to product design and safety.

Previous winners of the competition, which is organised by Electrical Safety First, include the “world’s smallest fire extinguisher” which is an E-Bulb from JOB Group. The tiny E-Bulb extinguisher is integrated into electrical appliances and extinguishes internal fires from the inside, even before they are visible from the outside.

Last year’s winners, Connected Innovations, created a product that switches off appliances if it detects a build-up of heat in the plugs and nearby wiring. “It was a great honour to win the Safety Innovation Award which provided us a platform to showcase our sockets and exposed us to some of the leading voices in the industry,” said Anthony Parfitt, CEO and Founder of Connected Innovations.

The winner will be announced at Electrical Safety First’s annual product safety conference where they will be given a platform to discuss their invention. They will also be offered media coverage, tailored newsletters and social media, as well as half a day of coaching from Electrical Safety First’s Technical Team where they will be given guidance.

“It was validation for all our hard work as we change the landscape of fire safety. Our award-winning sockets will not only be the smartest but also the safest and will reduce electrical fires in all types of buildings on a global scale,” said Mr Parfitt.

The free-to-enter award competition is open to entries from individuals and organisations, applications can be at all stages of development – including design and concept.

Lesley Rudd, Chief Executive of Electrical Safety First, explained that they are always impressed by the amazing innovations. She also said: “A great idea can come from anywhere and we are looking forward to seeing more award entries that make us reassess what is possible in the realm of product safety. If you have a product or even a product concept, that improves safety of the public, we urge you to get in touch and enter – you could be our next winner.”
