Currys has named Microsoft as its first official Retail Repair Partner; under its partnership, Currys has been authorised to repair Microsoft Surface laptops within its stores.

The retailer’s partnership will allow consumers to access in-person support at any of its 300 UK and Ireland stores before the product is booked in for a technical repair.

Curry’s Chief Operating Officer, Lindsay Haselhurst, said: “At Currys we know that offering customers the right after sales support when it comes to their tech and ensuring they have the longest life possible is just as important as offering the latest ranges of amazing technology.

“We are proud to be working with Microsoft in this new collaboration which will give thousands of Surface laptop users in the UK a new route to access repairs, as and when they need them, no matter where they purchased their laptop.”

Under the partnership, Currys can replace the Surface unit within the warranty period, as well as perform repairs in the event of a breakdown at its Newark, Nottinghamshire, facility.

In other news, Currys has appointed N Brown CEO, Steve Johnson, to its board.

Mr Johnson has been CEO of the JD Williams Group and Jacamo Owner since 2019. He will become a Non-Executive Director and member of Currys Audit Committee from 1 June.

Current Currys Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee, Fiona McBain, will step down from her position at the upcoming AGM on 5 September.

Adam Walker, Non-Executive Director and a member of the Audit Committee, will succeed her.

Currys’ Chair of the board, Ian Dyson, said: “Steve has a strong track record of retail leadership and brings a wealth of experience from a number of large online retail and financial services businesses. I am very much looking forward to working with him.

“I would like to thank Fiona for her exceptional service on the board over the last seven years. Fiona’s expertise, challenge and diligent stewardship of the audit committee has been invaluable to the company during a period of significant change.”
