Belling has launched an energy-saving recipe book, which is free to download from its website, in a bid to help consumers save money in the kitchen.
Research has shown that an hour a day of cooking can cost a household £209 per year in fuel costs; its ‘Energy-Saving Recipe Book’ contains lower-energy versions of a range of much-loved dishes and meals, as well as tips and tricks to maximise the use of appliances, cookware and ingredients.
Amy Hutchinson, spokesperson for Belling, said: “Energy prices remain high and many households are feeling the pinch, but every family deserves good quality home-cooked food on the table. Belling has been at the heart of British kitchens for more than a century, so we’ve used some of that know-how to create lower-energy recipes that everyone can enjoy whilst saving money and we hope it will be another way of Belling supporting our customers.
“Retailers can also point consumers in the direction of this new book and encourage them to download it as an added value extra.”
The Belling Energy-Saving Recipe Book also includes money-saving tips and tricks which home cooks may not have considered, including:
- Burnt-on food can absorb heat, so keep your hob and oven clean
- Use the correctly-sized pan for your gas hob – a large pan on a small burner will take too long to heat, and a too-small pan will waste the escaping heat
- Glass or ceramic dishes will retain heat better than metal
Among the featured meals is a traditional roast dinner which can take well over an hour to prepare, but, with a few simple alterations, can be on the table in a mere 40 minutes, using 62 per cent less energy.
