British consumer electronics brand Pure has shipped more than five million digital radios worldwide, which it said makes it the best-selling digital radio manufacturer of all time.
Pure has experienced powerful growth internationally with a strong presence in a number of countries, including Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Technology from Pure’s parent company, Imagination, is used in more than 80 per cent of digital radios on the market today.
Pure’s success is supported by another British company, Frontier Silicon, which supplies manufacturers with digital radio modules and integrated circuits.
Said Paul Smith, Pure’s general manager: “Pure has consistently delivered firsts in the digital radio market. As the pioneer of the first sub-£100 digital radio, which famously drew queuing crowds to London’s Oxford Street, we went on to be the first manufacturer to sell half-a-million digital radios. We’re extremely proud to announce that we are the first manufacturer of digital radios to sell in excess of five million.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the thousands of retail stores that stock Pure radios and, of course, all Pure radio owners. The future for digital radio is looking extremely positive and we look forward to working with partners like Frontier Silicon to continue to innovate and produce products our customers love.”
Added Anthony Sethill, chief executive of Frontier Silicon: “Like Pure, we are proud to be flying the flag for British companies in the world of consumer electronics. The success that we’ve both achieved is down to a continued and constant drive for progress. Digital radio is making strong advances across Europe and beyond and as the global market matures, it is vital that we continue to develop reliable technology solutions as well as innovative, high-quality products.”
Said Ford Ennals, chief executive of Digital Radio UK: “We congratulate Pure, Frontier Silicon and Imagination Technologies on another major milestone for digital radio. Together, through their innovation and high quality products, they have played an important role in helping to deliver radio’s digital future across the globe.”
