| CES 2010 News: LG unveils new TV line-up for the UK, including 3D, OLED and Freeview HD | |
| 06 January 2010 LG’s new consumer electronics products line-up for the UK will include 3DTV, Freeview HD ,Freesat HD, OLED, wireless HD, a new home entertainment sub brand and strengthened broadband TV capabilities, including wireless internet and Skype, it was announced at CES today (Jan 6). LG will make its first 3DTV (LD360) available to consumers in April of this year. The 47in LCD TV will be compatible with Sky 3D TV services which are due to launch later this year. It will incorporate passive technology, rather than active, meaning that consumers will only need simple, affordable 3D glasses to enjoy the 3D content. The company chose CES to unveil its new Infinia sub brand, which will feature on a range of the company’s premium TV and home entertainment products. Infinia will be available from April 2010 and will include Full Slim LED TVs such as the LE9500 with a thin bezel of only 8.5mm. Other premium LED and plasma models will also feature in the range. This year will see LG launch its new 15in OLED TV, which will go on sale in the UK in Spring 2010. Throughout the year, LG will introduce over 70 new TVS – a 30 per cent increase on last year, with an unprecedented number featuring LED technology, including Slim Full LED models. In 2010, half of LG’s TVs will have integrated Freeview HD capabilities on LCD, LED and plasma models. LG will also offer LED TVs with Freesat HD to tie-in with this year’s summer of sport. The company announced that over half of its 2010 TV line-up will be broadband ready and able to connect to an internet service. Users will be able to connect their TV and home modem – either wired (Ethernet cable) or wireless with a USB dongle – and access YouTube and Skype directly through their TV. LG will also introduce a new user friendly TV interface to ensure consumers can easily access their TV’s features. Included with several models within the Infinia range will be a ‘point and click’ Magic Wand remote control that combines simplified menus, component controls and embedded games. It features minimal buttons and users can control the on-screen activity by gesturing with the device. “This year will see the realisation of many new and exciting technologies in home entertainment that have been talked about in the industry for some time. At LG, we believe all TV viewers in the UK deserve easy access to the best viewing experience. We are revolutionising the way people watch TV as well as offering choice through our broad portfolio," said Andrew Warner, marketing director of LG Electronics. "This allows consumers to select the most relevant features for their requirements on the platform of their choice, whether it is LCD, LCD or plasma products. In addition, for the discerning TV buyer, our new Infinia range offers the latest in premium home entertainment." | |
