Smeg nets Wimbledon deal

Some top tennis players due to appear on Centre Court and Number One Court at this year’s Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships will be wearing patches on their shirts promoting Smeg.

However, the type of sponsorship means the appliance brand will not know until the actual day of the match which players will be carrying its patches.

In the meantime, Smeg is also sponsoring two up-and-coming UK players – Oli Golding and Kyle Edmund. Both youngsters are competing in Wimbledon’s Junior Tennis Championships.

Seventeen-year-old Oli Golding (pictured) from Twickenham, Middlesex, is the current under-16 and under-18 British number one and is ranked number four in the world. Sixteen-year-old Kyle Edmund from East Yorkshire is number one in the world for his age group and number 34 at under-18 level.

During Wimbledon fortnight (June 20-July 3), Smeg will offer visitors a chance to enter a competition on its new website to win a 1950’s retro-style FAB28QB fridge appropriately filled with strawberries and cream.
