Brands join to create 'universal' 3D glasses | Back |

Major brands have joined forces to set a new technology standard for 3D active glasses, which will see “universal” active 3D glasses on sale by 2012.
Under the “Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative”, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Xpand 3D today announced that they would work together on the development and licensing of radio frequency (RF) system 3D active glasses technology.
They will also seek to standardise infrared (IR) protocols between 3D active glasses and 3D displays.
Universal glasses with the new IR/RF protocols will be made available in 2012 and it is hoped they will be backward-compatible with 2011 3D active TVs.
