Apple iPad 2

Apple revealed that it had sold its one millionth iPad on Friday, just 28 days after it was introduced.

“One million iPads in 28 days — that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Apple chief executive Steve Jobs.

“Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”

The iPad allows users to surf the internet, use e-mail, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read e-books and share photos using its Multi-Touch user interface.

It weighs just under 0.7kg, is 12.7mm thick and is said to offer up to 10 hours of battery life.

Since the iPad’s launch on April 3,users have downloaded more than 12 million apps from the App Store and more than 1.5m e-books from the new iBookstore.

More than 5,000 apps have been created that take advantage of the iPad’s multi-touch user interface and large screen.

The company also promised that the iPad will run almost all of the 200,000-plus apps on the App Store, including apps already bought by users for the iPhone or iPod Touch.
