Apple has sold more than two million iPads in less than 60 days since its launch on April 3.

The company started shipping the tablet computer to the UK during the weekend.

“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do,” said Apple chief executive Steve Jobs.

“We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

The iPad, which is 0.5 inches thick and weighs lbs 1.5 allows users to browse the internet, read and send email, watch HD videos, play games, read ebooks, listen to music and share pictures via its Multi-Touch user interface. Its battery life is said to be 10 hours.

More than 5,000 new apps have already been created for the unit.
