Sony job cuts in US
08 June 2007

Sony says it is to cut jobs in the US just weeks after announcing an eight per cent reduction in its European workforce.

The manufacturer’s troubled games division – its Computer Entertainment Unit – reported an operating loss of $1.91bn for the year ended 31 March.

The high cost of developing the PlayStation 3 is being blamed, which has resulted in the impending job losses in the US.

Industry observers are suggesting that Sony’s latest games console has failed to match expectations and is losing the fight against the cheaper, and lower tech, Wii from Nintendo.
